In today’s ERA, where graphical capabilities of video game (either console or PC) can be compared to the silver screen CGI effect, or even sometimes better, a lot of developer from video game titles is developing scenes, things or effect that can’t be done in a silver screen. The freedom in a free flow of creativity resulting in some of the BEST thing in entertainment media. And this is the top 4 things in my mind that video game can do better than the movie counterpart.
A walk in the prairie by RED DEAD REDEMPTION(PS3/XBOX360, 2010)
I love the old western setting in a movie. I enjoyed the hell out of watching Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western when I’m growing up. Even though its an Italian-made movie, no US-made movie can be at the same level as the realistic dusty, dirt and gritty sense that Leone’s bring to his movie. But finally someone does it right. Red Dead Redemption is the sandbox action video games that put you in the shoes of John Marston, a cowboy, an outlaw. The world of Red Dead Redemption is amazingly tranquil and beautifully made. As if you can feel the sunrise, you can feel the heat, you can even smell the snow right in front of your screen! There’s nothing more old-west in this entertainment world than the world of this game.
Batman Fighting Skill, by BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM(PC/XBOX360/PS3, 2009)
Christopher Nolan’s Batman Saga is a masterpiece, no doubt about it. But if I were to fix the 2 movie(Begins and the Dark Knight), I would put a lot of more effort in showing Batman’s capability of kicking a lot of his enemy’s ass. The camera work, and the cut is too fast in Nolan version of the caped crusader saga. But in BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM, there’s no such thing as quick cut or shadowy/blurry scenes. You can see very clearly when Batman’s breaking someone’s arm, doing some a rear naked choke, or even kicking someone’s brain till the guy playing dead!
Nuclear Scene Explode, by CALL OF DUTY : MODERN WARFARE(PC/PS3/XBOX360/WII/DS, 2007)
Its actually very surprising if you compare the amount of Hollywood flicks that using nuclear theme in the storyline, with an actual real NUCLEAR scene in the movie itself is very very small. Only a handful of movie that capable of delivering some cool nuclear blast. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull(Its not even a NUCLEAR material movie) and Terminator 3 : Rise of the Machines is the only title I can remembered. The scene wasn’t too good either, especially when compared to this godly act.
Gruesome Killing, by ALIENS VS PREDATORS(PC/PS3/XBOX360, 2010)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m madly in love with both(Alien and Predator) franchise. But quite frankly, the actual good, gruesome kills in the all of the movie that involved that 2 creature wasn’t much to be fondly about. But now, we can do all the gory stuff as much as we want, and anytime we want.
